30+ Years in Business and Quality Craftsmanship
We have created hundreds of custom stained glass pieces for customers all over the world. Our reputation for quality work and craftsmanship has made us one of the top custom stained glass shops in Northern California.
If you have an idea for a stained glass piece that you would love to have designed and created, all you need to do is take the first step and call us or come by and show us what you have in mind. We can even come to you so that you can show us where the piece will be placed or installed. From there, we can draw up the design and together we can pick out the glass that will be used then we can start the process.
We design and create all kinds of stained glass from stained glass windows to lamps or even yard art and more. Each piece is unique and custom designed. You won’t see the same piece anywhere else. We take great pride in making sure you are completely happy.
Our process will work like this:
- We will typically start by talking with you at length about the piece or pieces you are interested in. We will discuss the size and placement of the piece, the style of the room where it will reside, what colors and styles you favor, and your budget for the stained glass project and if they are being installed or just a show piece.
- We will then work with you to find images that are perfect for your stained glass project and to you. We can also draw up a design that we think you will like and will encompass what we discussed. These can be from pictures you have, or from any of our dozens of pattern books, or maybe even something you have found online. If you have a particular history piece in mind we will even do the research and find out what style was used in that era.
- Then with everything to this point approved, we will give you the estimate of the cost of creating your piece and we’ll work with you to select the glass and begin the process of creating your design.
- The final process can take time and we will be sure to give you an estimated time for completion depending on the piece, whether we have the glass you chose in stock and the complexity of the piece.
A Perfect Custom Stained Glass Designed Job
Getting to know the project and the background of the project is important. We start with the project location, like the clients home and if there are remodel plans. We take into consideration if they are working with a Designer, Decorator or an Architect. Then we take into consideration personalities, wants and dreams of the project. It takes a lot of time and conversation to get the perfect end result for the custom stained glass work. There are changes that will need to be made because in the end, the client will be living with the art work.
This custom stained glass project was a 5 ft window in the second story of a remodeled summer home. The art glass was to be installed in the second story landing. The first sketch was taken to the site, even though the installation site was unfinished. We needed to see if the ideas and perspective were right, before we proceeded. The design was good and the project design was signed off.
The next step was to pick the custom stained glass colors, sometimes this part is left to the Artist, and sometimes the homeowner wants to be involved. This particular piece would take hundreds of colors and textures. The fish and eagle were the first part to be built in the copper-foil technique because of the small details.
After all the pieces are cut and put in, the joints all have to be soldered. This takes a good amount of time because of the complexity of the design. Putty and whiting are put on next, after which, the window will just sit for a several days. Because of its size, complexity of design and the weight with all the lead used, cleaning and trimming the window of putty and whiting will take a few days. It will sit again for a few days, then be turned over and the same steps will apply on the other side. Finally the polishing and cleaning of each and every little piece is done to make sure it is perfect when it is taken out of the studio. The contractor will put wood stops next to the permanent window. The Art Glass is put on the inside of the home and finished with good molding.
